New Album: VIATA

Viata is the new self-release by Sydney trumpeter Eamon Dilworth (Tijuana Cartel, Ed Kuepper, Low Down Riders). A pensive soundtrack capturing the mood to life experiences.
The album concept stems from a trip to Romania encountering a new city with a different way of life, morales and stories. Viata means “Life” in Romanian, in terms of how we continue to exist and simply be. Learning to live with ourselves as we are.
“The trip opened me up to consider who I am, where I come from & how I deal with experiences and challenges.. My musical output changed from this day to seek a deeper connection through my music and performance leading me to attempt to create soundtracks for my challenges in coming into adulthood.”

Live in Christchurch

March was an exciting time for me full of travels. Following a trip to Wellington and a rejuvenation trip to Bali I was invited to Christchurch to partake in a big band recording session with Ali Harper at Orange Studio.
Whilst there I did a solo show with Daniel Hayles and Reuben Bradley performing compositions that are becoming a sort of “life song cycles” – each song representing a difference viewpoint on life events from the spiritual to the physical places I visit.

This song “Milano” I wrote in the Italian city in 2010 whilst I was living there. Previously I was composing frequently but this year was one of searching and somewhat of an identity crisis and as a result was the only composition I wrote on these travels. I’ve performed this song with The Dilworths, Tiny Hearts and now this group – each time trying to get closer to capturing the feeling of loneliness I experienced living in a foreign city and also identity, being comfortable in your own skin.

Introducing the Low Down Riders

Recently I joined a new band – “The Low Down Riders” which is a foray into Dixieland & New Orleans music. For those in Sydney you can catch the band fairly regularly at The Lord Wolseley, Gasoline Pony, White Horse hotel and various other places we pop up.
The band also marks my debut into lead vocals and here is a clip singing and playing my very first instrument – a B & H Cornet purchased in 1995.

Back in Sydney show @ 505

Hey Everyone,

The last few months have been very eventful crossing more borders and timezones than I can count playing music anywhere and everywhere. I started in Amsterdam with Caravana Sun and making our way our the Netherlands, France, Switzerland, Austria and Portugal, including performing during teh Australia vs Netherlands game in Einhoven (Netherlands) to a bunch of unruly Dutch people. I was in Munich to watch Germany win the final and since returning to Sydney found myself in Perth for a week and now have just completed an 8 day tour of NZ with my jazz group Tiny Hearts. Where am I now? A brief pause lands me back in Sydney for 8 days (with a quick overnight in Brisbane).
I have a performance (all-ages) next Thursday 28th August at Sydney’s great jazz club Venue 505. The opportunity to perform in Sydney is becoming rare as I’m finding myself feeling more and more a local in so many different places around the world.
For this performance on the 28th, I’m joined by my comrades from Tiny Hearts and 505 is one of my favourite venues in Sydney. We are performing music from our album “Alluvium” and also new compositions that are soon to be released on a live EP recorded and filmed in Christchurch NZ. We are fresh from undertaking an 8 day New Zealand tour and in peak form.
I’d love to see you down there at the gig, it’s been a long time since I’ve seen a lot of you and I’d love to catch up and see whats happening in your world.
Here’s the deets:
What: Tiny Hearts
Where: 505 (corner of Cleveland and Perry Streets Surry Hills (280 Cleveland Street)
Time: Doors from 6:30pm and Performance begins 8:30pm
Cost: $15 Adult / $10 Concession
505 has great food and a fine selection of craft beers, wines and whiskeys.
Hope to see you soon,

Tiny Hearts Trans-Tasman Tour

So I’m sitting in the corner of a small bar in the quiet town of Grandola in Portugal organising the next run of Tiny Hearts dates. It’s crept up on me that in 1 week I’ll fly back to Sydney (via Perth for a week) then in a little over 2 weeks getting back on the plane for another international adventure.

For Auckland, Hamilton and Wellington we will be joined by Jake Baxendale.

So here’s the list:

Wednesday 13th August – CJC, Auckland NZ
Thursday 14th August – Hamilton NZ
Friday 15th August – House Concert, Wellington NZ
Saturday 16th August – Orange Studio, Christchurch NZ
Sunday 17th August – Orange Studio, Christchurch NZ (Steve Barry Band)
Tuesday 19th August – Auckland Jazz & Blues Club (Duke Ellington tribute)

Friday 22nd August Jazz Upstairs Brisbane AUS
Thursday 28th August 505 Sydney, AUS

Hope to see you out at one of the shows!
